Tredegar (31) Ynysybwl 7

Sept 8th 2007

Match Report by Lyndon Evans

TREDEGAR SPARKLE IN THE SUN

Tredegar put up a polished performance to run in 4 tries against visitors Ynysybwl, gaining a valuable bonus point to run out comfortable winners 31 points to 7 at the recreation ground.

Ynysybwl drew first blood when centre James Reed crashed over and his conversion under the posts saw the visitors take the lead. Tredegar hit back immediately with a superb movement that saw Jamie Parry touch down with Kearney converting.

Whilst Ynysybwl featured the Reed bothers, one in the centre & the other in the back row the boys made history by both being yellow carded in the same match, a first in the 'Bwls history.

Gareth Kearney slotted a penalty to see Tredegar take the lead but a man of the match performance by Stuart Jarman saw the back row warhorse return to his best form after a few seasons in the doldrums.

Jamie Noble & Ben Harding provided an effective force in the second row and it was only Jarman's barnstorming performance that edged Noble out of the award. Tredegar's platform for sucess started up front with Paul Douglas, Ryan Williams & Gareth James laying down a marker for the rest of the division's front row to match.

Centre Dan Davies positively oozed class and his 35th minute touchdown, converted by Kearney saw Tredegar lead 17 pts to 5 at the break. During the second half 3 Tredegar players were yellow carded but whilst they were depleted their defence stood firm with Ynysybwl being unable to take advantage of their superiority.

With Jarman stealing the show and the Tredegar pack dominating the visitors in the line out and at the set piece Tredegar were able to dictate matters & when centre Dave Davies crashed over, Kearney's conversion consigned the visitors to a heavy defeat. Jarman finished off an outstanding performance to touchdown and Kearneys 5th kick at goal saw the home side run out comfortable winners, scoring 4 tries to gain a valuable bonus point.

Coach Tony Edwards now has an extremely strong squad to work with & with a few more games under their belt Tredegar could well be challenging for honours again this season.
Tredegar's next game is away to former first division Ystrad Rhondda on Sat 22nd September.
