Match Reports 2011/12
Blackwood (26) Tredegar (19)
Sept 10th 2011
Tredegar put in another creditable performance but still search for that first victory in Division 1.
Scott Amber was Tredegar's hero of the day, scoring all their points against Blackwood but the battling team of newcomers to the division showed great composure and came away with a losing bonus point.
With Amber and his opposite number Chris Wannel swopping penalties it was only two tries in quick sucession by Anthony John and Nathan Gittings that put Blackwood in the driving seat setting them on the road to victory.
Wannel's two conversions saw Blackwood lead 20 points to 9 at the interval with Amber slotting a further two penalties.
Whilst Rhys Hallet marshalled his troops from the centre position, David Birkby made his first start at scrumhalf and when he put his half back partner Amber through the gap the outside half's straight running was rewarded with the try of the afternoon. Amber's conversion narrowed the gap to just four points but Tredegar's efforts to secure victory were thwarted by a further 2 penalties from Wannel whilst Amber's final penalty saw him nab 19 points.
Tredegar finished strongly but went down by 26 points to 19 and look forward to another local derby on Saturday when they play host to the Iron mwn from Merthyr Tydfil at the Recreation Ground.
