Tredegar (21) Rumney (22)
January 7th 2012
Tredegar welcomed back centre Craig Lloyd who put in a man of the performance performance that just saw Tredegar succumb to the forward power of their visitors from Rumney losing by a single point.
Rumney drew first first blood with a Dan Clarke penalty and with a rampant pack found it difficult to get past a steadfast Tredegar defensive line.
Despite using the strong wind to their advantage the visitors were stunned when Tredegar based their first half game play on counter attacking which saw Rhys Hallet and Matt Cummings breach a wanting defence to get a try apiece and with Greg Jones slotting the conversions the home team lead 14 points to 3 at half time.
With the benefit of the wind at their backs Tredegar started the second half full of confidence but following a period of sustained pressure the visitors jumbo pack steam rollered over the line with a Paul Bull try reducing the deficit.
Following the restart Tredegar fell asleep and allowed Gareth Stoppani to cross for the easiest of tries and with Clarke converting the visitors took the lead.
Despite the best efforts of Jordan Williams and Ryan Thomas, Tredegar found it difficult to manufacture and obtain possession yet Craig Lloyd featured in a number of moves that could have produced the cushion Tredegar needed but when the referee awarded a penalty try for a mid field misdemeanour Tredegar stared defeat in the face yet still battled to get a losing bonus point and after another counter attack from within their own half Greg Jones scampered over and his last minute conversion saw Rumney win by just a single point.
After the game, which was sponsored by the Supporters club Greg Jones recieved an award for his man of the performance against Newbridge as well as The Tredegar Player of the month for December
Saturday Tredegar are away to Mountain Ash
