Rumney (39) Tredegar (5)

Sept 24th 2011

Luckless Tredegar were dealt another cruel injury blow when Alex Evans broke a finger in the pre-match warm up at Rumney's Riverside Park.

With both teams searching for that first elusive win in this year's campaign Tredegar could only field a makeshift team calling on the sevices of the experienced Gareth Kearney and Jason Williams acquitted himself well in the unaccustomed position of scrum half.

Following a nervous start Tredegar got off the blocks with a well taken try by winger Greg Plant who scurried down the touchline hitting off defenders left right and centre to get his first touchdown in a Tredegar shirt.

Although Scott Amber's shot at goal sailed wide of the posts Tredegar showed flashes of brilliance with Ryan Thomas marshalling his troops well and Alun Jenkins again being the pick of the pack.

Playing in fits and starts Tredegar's lapses in concentration saw Rumney capitalise and run in 6 tries to secure their first win and bonus point of the season.

However Tredegar can take heart from a do or die performance from hooker Will Evans and with Matt Mcgovern putting in a bustling performance in midfield it was left to young Cameron Price-Regan to fly the flag for Tredegar in the face of adversity.

Tredegar still search for that win in Division 1 and will meet last years Division 2 champions Mountain Ash who also need to kick start their season at the Recereation Ground on Saturday
