Tredegar (0) Merthyr (29)

Sept 17th 2011

With two creditable performances behind them Tredegar slumped to a twenty nine points drubbing at the hands of a youthfull Merthyr side who adapted much better to the conditions.

Merthyr connected better with the ball whilst everytime Tredegar tried to break the dead lock they lost the ball in the turn over or the streetwise Ironmen stole away crucial ball to put the home team on the back foot.

Tredegar weren't helped with pre-match injuries preventing Tom James and Daniel Davies lining up, and the game saw Steve Knight , Alex Evans and Rhys Hallett all leaving the field of play with injuries that depleted the team and does not bode well for the future.

With Merthyr securing a bonus point victory with tries from Adam Williams, Cam Gardner, Aarron Harris and Lloyd Hynes, 9 points from the boot of Josh Fry saw the visitors run out comfortable winners.

Despite the disruption with injuries, on a positive note Alun Jenkins toiled well at number eight and live wire winger Greg Plant looked to be Tredegar's danger man threatening at every opportunity.

After such creditable performances against fancied Newbridge and Blackwood, Tredegar need to regroup and focus on the task in hand in the first division and when up to full strength should have the capability and firepower to record the first confidence boosting win of the season
