Match Reports 2011/12
Newbridge (17) Tredegar (23)
November 19th 2011
Resplendent in their new kit, Tredegar were unstoppable against a poor Newbridge side whose performance belies their top three position in the league.
The Tredegar pack as a unit outplayed the Newbridge eight with Cameron Price-Regan dominating the line out, giving outside half Greg Jones the opportunities to continually put Tredegar in the driving seat with some tremendous kicking out of hand and a near flawless display saw the ex Newbridge player land three penalties and a conversion
With Jones resuming his half back partnership with Rhys Hallett, Newbridge were hampered when Geraint Langdon received a red card for a blatant punch on Alan Jenkins. For Newbridge, Bevan Howell had a good day with the boot slotting three penalties in the first half and a penalty and conversion in the second period of play, whilst substitute Ryan Price grabbed a consolation try. Alan Jenkins put Tredegar on the road to victory with a well taken try and Matt McGovern proved too hot to handle when he crashed over with Newbridge defence all at sea. Scott Ambers’ conversion saw Tredegar run out worthy winners.
If Tredegar can maintain this sort of performance in the second half of the season then more wins will surely follow.
Saturdays fixture with Blackwood has been postponed so Tredegar next see action against the Ironmen in Merthyr Tydfil on December 17th.
