Tredegar (7) Mountain Ash (42)

October 1st 2011

Tredegar's loss to last years Division 2 champions Mountain Ash sees them as the only team in Division 1 East yet to notch up a win in this years campaign.

With the Recreation Ground in Tredegar in pristine condition and in scorching weather more akin to the South of France, Tredegar were unable to prevent the Old Firm from running in 6 tries with their impressive youngster Josh Lewis at outside half bagging 17 points.

Kyle Scrivens,Gareth Lloyd, Rhys Wells, & Josh Faletau made their debuts in a Tredegar shirt whilst James Richards and Jamie Henthorne made a welcome return to the team after a few years abscence.

Although both teams are propping up division one the encounter was highly entertaining with the visitors comfortably ahead by 25 points at the break.

Tredegar came out of the blocks in the second half firing on all cylinders and whilst Scott Amber was brought down just short of the line the movement carried on and flanker Cameron Price-Regan crashed over for a well taken try which Amber converted.

Despite Tredegar's best efforts the visitors capitalised on mistakes and ran in a further three tries but an otherwise clean fought encounter was marred by a mass punch up at the end which saw Tredegar sub Paul Edwards given his marching orders.

Tredegar have been hit hard by injuries and have certainly had their start to the season disrupted but hopefully when the key players return to full fitness then results will come.

Saturday, Tredegar visit Eugene Cross Park resuming old rivalries with Ebbw Vale.
