Tredegar (38) Rhydyfelin (12)
April 30th 2011

Rhydefelin couldn't stop the party at Tredegar as the league runners up celebrated promotion in style with the Tredegar mini's providing a guard of honour as Rhys Hallet led his team onto the field. Having been held to a draw the previous week at Rhydefelin and with both teams venues called the Recreation Ground, Tredegar showed no mercy at home running in another five tries.

With a swirling wind giving no side any particular advantage Craig Lloyd got the party off to a perfect start touching down within minutes of the kick off. A Dan Haymond conversion and penalty shortly after saw Tredegar ten points ahead in as many minutes with Haymond becoming Tredegar's highest league points scorer in a season.

A Rees King try for the visitors converted by Lee Scarf brought them back into the game but a magnificent break by David Davies caught Rhyd napping and the full back crossed the whitewash under the sticks giving Haymond an easy conversion.

With the Tredegar pack putting up a stern performance Kynes, Knight and Jenkins in the backrow set up Tredegar for attack after attack and with a stream of ball from young Tom Brown and Tony Simmons in the boilerhouse Tredegar were in the ascendancy. The front row of Grant, Crowley and Gould never took a backward step and it was fitting that Nicky Gould's last game before retiring saw the prop relishing victory.
Sam Studley for the visitors started the scoring off in the second half but Tredegar soon took control witheir immaculate half backs Aaron Quick and Dan Haymond posing all sorts of problems to the tiring visitors.

Tom Mcpherson added to his try tally just failing to beat Ken Pugh's 40year old try-scoring record and Matt Mcgovern gave his all for the Tredegar cause whilst captain Rhys Hallet savoured the moment.
Ron Kynes completed Tredegar's try scoring for the season and Haymond's conversion brought the curtain down on a hugely sucessful season getting the party going in style.

The mini section joined in the celebrations after the final whistle and Director of Coaching Robert Johnston said the team had played their hearts out all season and got the success they deserved. Johnston added the players will have many more seasons in front of them but this one was special and they would always remember the season their achieved promotion to division 1 with Tredegar RFC.
