Match Reports 2010/11
Tredegar (28) Penarth (12)
Sept 25th 2010

Another bonus point win against Penarth sees Tredegar RFC setting the pace at the top of Division 2.
Penarth last visted Tredegar in 1996 and as on this occasion the hosts deservedly held the spoils and the seasiders were sent home thoroughly beaten by four tries to nil.

Against the wind Tredegar struggled in the first half to gain parity up front and if Penarth had been more decisive at half back then they could well have dictated matters and the end result could have been different.

However to Tredegar's credit their defence was not breached and the seasiders never looked as if they would score a try and it was only the boot of outside half Gareth Davies slotting four penalties that kept them in the game.
Tredegar were hampered playing against the wind and Penarth took full advantage ensuring the first half was played in Tredegar territory.

However when the Tredegar try scoring machine stepped up a gear Steve Knight should have touched down only to knock the ball on with the line at his mercy.
On the rare occasions Tredegar managed to spin the ball, centre Tom Mcpherson proved unstoppable adding another brace of tries to his portfolio.
The strong running centre put in a man of the match performance and just gets better and better with every game.

With Tredegar leading 14 points to 9 at the break the home team shrugged caution to the wind chasing a bonus point win and attacked at every opportunity. Choosing not to take kickable penalties Tredegar chose to go for the jugalar and showed enterprise at every opportunity.
Flanker Ron Kynes put in another dynamic performance and was justly rewarded with another touchdown and a try by Aaron Quick saw Tredegar gain another bonus point.

Dan Haymond slotted all four conversions and the seasiders were sent home feeling rather sick.
With Tredegar ringing the changes from last week Carl Barnett and Gerwyn Davies made their first appearance in a Tredegar shirt and the whole squad must be complimented on their attitude and application, gaining another bonus point win without conceeding a try.
Next Saturday Tredegar take on Llantwit Fadre at the Recreation ground.
