Match Reports 2010/11
Penarth (7) Tredegar (25)
Jan 15th 2011
Tredegar's three tries in this game saw them just miss out on another bonus point when they completed the double over Penarth to go clear at the top of Division 2

Tredegar last played at Penarth in 1996 and, in the earlier fixture this year, the seasiders match report accused the visitors of playing unimaginative rugby only to see them succumb yet again to the sparkling rugby that Tredegar put together, particularly in the first half.

Dan Haymond's penalty after five minutes drew first blood for Tredegar and when Dominic Pullen denied his opposite number the try that would have given Penarth hope, the visitors were stretched when the ever elert Rhys Hallett just failed to intercept. The captain would have undoubtedly added another try to his tally but was unlucky not to hold onto the ball..

Whilst the Penarth forwards held the upper hand the seasiders defence sprang more leaks than the Titanic and when Tom McPherson took the ball in his own 22 and burst through the centre the seasiders could not stem the tide to see Tredegar's top try scorer outsprint the whole of the home team to touchdown between the posts emphasizing the class act Tredegar have in midfield.
Haymond's conversion followed by his second penalty saw Penarth facing another defeat despite dominating possession and territory.

The second half saw Tredegar make hard work of what should have been a comfortable win.
All to often they tried to unleash their attacking force behind but were slow at the breakdown to get the ball away making attacks in effective but when they upped the ante the flagging home pack could not cope with Tredegar's fitness levels and when Tom Brown finished off another spectacular move to get his first try in a Tredegar shirt the Penarth mid field defence had been shattered yet again.

Tredegar sensed another bonus point win and upped the pace of the game which saw Rhys Hallett cross unopposed whilst Haymond's conversion saw the visitors comfortably ahead by twenty five points to nil.
Following a dubious penalty on Tredegar's line Penarth's Gary Powell managed to ground the ball scoring a consolation try whilst Gary Davies converted.

Scoring seven tries in the two rubbers against the seasiders ,Tredegar continue to head the try scoring stakes in the division playing attacking never say die rugby and visit Llantwit Fadre next Saturday whilst the quest for promotion continues.
