Tredegar (19) Penallta (5)

March 5th 2011

Tredegar were denied a bonus point win after scoring a perfectly good touchdown in the dying seconds which was disallowed after pacy centre, Tom Mcpherson left the ref for dead and outstripped the Pitmen from Penallta only to see the unsighted ref rule that the scoring pass was forward.

The first half saw Tredegar looking superior in most aspects of the game and while Penallta failed to capitalise on their only try scoring opportunity, high flying Tredegar ran in three tries. The first try came from flanker Luke Mansfield who burst through the Pitmen's defensive line to put Tredegar into a lead that they would not surrender.

Penallta had no answer to Tredegar's pacy threequarter line and the irrepresible Mcpherson kept his try scoring tally nicely ticking along, whilst centre partner Craig Lloyd also crossed the whitewash to add to his tally. Dan Haymond's brace of conversions capped another accomplished performance for the Tredegar mid field general whilst Rhys Hallett always looked dangerous on the wing.

The second half saw the Pitmen put in a hard days work at the coal face as they embroiled Tredegar in a hard fought forward tussle and were rewarded with a consolation try by number eight Geraint Thomas.
In the closing seconds Penallta hailed siege to the Tredegar line only to see that man Mcpherson steal away with the ball leaving all and sundry including the ref floundering but as the flyer put in the scoring pass the unsighted ref dramatically disallowed the vital score that would have seen Tredegar clinch that vital bonus point.

Whilst Tredegar may consider themselves shafted they consigned the Pitmen to the baths after their shift and look forward to Caerphilly away on Sat 19th March.
