Match Reports 2010/11

Tredegar (57) Llantwit Fardre (13)

Oct 2nd 2010

Tredegar's tremendous centres did it again with Tom McPherson being the toast of the town when he bagged a hatrick of tries against Llantwit Fadre . Tredegar set their store in the first minute when dynamic flanker Ron Kynes burst through some weak tackling to get Tredegar's first touchdown within a minute of the start. Kynes was unlucky later in the game following an eighty yard break when he was pulled down just short of the line and if he had just kept his head down instead of hesitating would have added another touchdown to his season's tally

Not allowing the visitors to settle Tredegar immediately hit them with another try by captain Rhys Hallett and a big score looked on the cards.
With Dan Haymond having another great day with the boot the homeside's marksman added another fifteen points through six conversions and a penalty to keep Tredegar well ahead at the top of the division and when Haymond was replaced by Chris Moseley, the youngster slotted his first point with the boot converting Tredegar's final try.

Both wings, Matt Jolly and Chris Moseely always looked dangerous, both showing some neat touches whilst number eight Alun Jenkins enjoyed his best game in a Tredegar shirt thoroughly earning his man of the match award. However Llantwit Fadre had no answer to Tredegar's super centres with the unstoppable Craig Lloyd bagging another brace.

The bigger pack from the Rhondda valley started to assert themselves and managed two tries mainly from their pick and drive game but had little else to offer spending much of their time trying to curtail the pace and exuberance of the league leaders except for a solitary penalty by Jason Pocock.

For the first time this season Tredegar lacked a little discipline and had both Neil Young and Ron Kynes dispatched to the bin for technical offences but even playing with depleted numbers the visitors could not capitulise and take advantage. Young made amends when he crashed over getting his first try for Tredegar.

Kristian Smith and Steve Evans competed well in the boiler house and Tredegar are now seeing the benefit of partnerships working well together for the benefit of the team. Kynes and Jenkins are forging a back row prescence which is awesome whilst the midfield trio of Haymond, Lloyd and McPherson are without equal in the division. The front row of Grant , Crowly and Willets competed well and Luke Mansfield made his presence felt when he made his debut as replacement.

To their credit the visitors tried hard but could not match the pace and power of the league leaders who with another bonus point win now are clear at the top of division 2.
Next Saturday Tredegar are away facing the black army of Llantrisant on their own patch
