Tredegar RFC's new team manager Chris Jones was delighted when his new look Tredegar team ran in eight tries past Caerphilly RFC who were a Division 1 team last season. Scoring 59 points ,Tredegar ran up the highest opening score of the division adding a bonus point to boot.

Jones' new charges included just six players from last years squad and demonstrated an attractive attacking philosopy that bodes well for the future.

Dan Hayman opened Tredegar's account for the new season slotting a penalty after just five minutes and with a 100 % kicking record converted all of Tredegar's eight tries ending up with a personal tally of nineteen points.

With Rhys Hallet playing a captains game, the lively scrum-half touched down twice and Caerphilly had no answer to the strong running of Craig Lloyd and Tom Mcpherson in midfield with both centres grabbing a brace of tries each.
Caerphilly's Matt Hurley slotted a penalty in the first half which saw Tredegar lead 31 points to 3 at the break.

With a ready made replacement for Joe Campbell, flanker Ron Kynes was outstanding and capped an outstanding debut with a well taken try .
Whilst Brett Mountney and the pack ensured Tredegar always kept the visitors at bay Matthew Jolly on the wing was a constant threat and was finally rewarded for his efforts when he got his first touchdown of the season.

With the game won a lapse in Tredegar's concentration saw the cheesemen's Simon Church cross for a consolation try and when Chris Moseley entered the fray he followed his fathers footsteps, prop Paul Moseley who last played for Tredegar in 1995

Tredegar's victory stemmed from an all round team performance and if this can be maintened can confidently look ahead to another successful season.
Jones added that whilst he was pleased with the win there is a long way to go but every effort will be made to improve on this performance and hopefully bring success for Tredegar.
