Tredegar's bonus point win saw them leap frog Mountain Ash to head Division Two East with a six try comprehensive mauling of Ynysybwl at home on the rec. Tredegar's penultimate home fixtureof the season saw the division two high fliers running in another six tries, emphasizing the attacking attractive style of play that has been instilled in them by Gareth Johnston and his coaching team.
With just a narrow win separating both teams in Tredegar's favour just two weeks ago Ynysybwl paid the return visit to Tredegar, not just to make up the numbers , scoring three tries themselves and entered into the spirit of a highly entertaining game.
Three first half tries by Rhys Hallet, Matthew Jolly and Dan Haymond put Tredegar into a commanding lead and with Haymond's three conversions ,Tredegar were comfortably ahead at the break.
Steve Knight put in a man of the match performance in what was arguably his best game in a Tredegar shirt whilst second row, Tom Brown's immense efforts at the lineout saw the youngster deliver excellent ball resulting in prop Andrew Grant crossing the whitewash to get that vital bonus point, whilst Knight was rewarded for his all action performance with a fine individual try.
Tredegar's ex-captain Paul Edwards had a profound effect on the game as when he entered the fray as a replacement the Tredegar pack immediately took a ball against the ahead at a scrum and Tredegar never looked back.
Nunber eight Alan Jenkins capped another fine display with a try and Haymond's sure footed boot added another two conversions and increased his personal points tally to 213 points for the season in the league.
For Ynysybwl Stucky, Lloyd and Rees scored tries whilst Richard Tibbs, a former Tredegar player, added seven points to the visitors tally.
With Rhydefelin losing, and the Old Firm not getting a bonus point, Tredegar are assured of promotion and could go up as champions should their nearest rivals make any more slip ups .
Team manager Chris Jones said he was delighted at Tredegar's performances all season and the team had been rewarded for the hard work and efforts they had all put in since September. Jones added that his squad of players had worked for each other and could not pay a higher tribute to the magnificent way in which they had persevered and deserved their success this season and welcomed a crack at the first division next year.
Next Saturday Tredegar are away to Fleur De Llys before facing Rhydefelin both away and home in the final two league fixtures of Division two.
Meanwhile, Tredegar face Caldicot in the semi finals of the Ben Francis cup, date to be arranged.
