Tredegar (31) Brynmawr (12)

Jan 3rd 2011

Tredegar kept up the pressure at the top of Division 2 East with a five try bonus point win securing the double over a hapless Brynmawr seeing the new year in, with style.

With both teams a little ring rusty after the enforced break Tredegar adapted better to the conditions in this local derby and saw number eight Alun Jenkins notch the first scores of the new year getting a brace of tries being just reward for his honest endeavour.

Tom Mcpherson also added another brace to his impressive tally whilst Aaron Quick's touchdown saw Tredegar register yet another bonus point. Brynmawr entered into the spirit of the game and four penalties by fullback Matthew Jordan kept eating into Tredegar's lead.

Even so, Tredegar controlled the first half and Dan Haymond slotted three conversions to see Tredegar ahead by fourteen points at the interval. Tredegar went off the boil in the second half but Brynmawr never threatened the home team's line and Tredegar only spluttered into life following an awesome break by Daniel Davies that should have resulted in a score and Tom Brown's adapt reading of the game showed what a good future this youngster will have in the game.

Although Alun Jenkins took the spoils in the back row both Steve Knight and Ron Kynes were devastating causing immense destruction and supporting when necessary. Tredegar deservedly took the honours and push on in their quest for promotion and with a trilogy of away games to come against Tylorstown, Penarth and Llantwit Fadre could determine the outcome of the season.
