Brynmawr (20) Tredegar (36)
Sept 11th 2010
With Tredegar setting the pace at the top of Division 2 another terrific performance saw the visitors run out comfortable winners in their first local derby against Brynmawr.
After putting 59 points past Caerphilly last weekTredegar had a tougher encounter at Brynmawr but still ran in four tries to win 36 - 20.
In a dour first half Tredegar's Dan Hayman traded penalties with his opposite number to just shade the half by 12 points to 9.
Brynmawr had no answer to the strong running of flanker Ron Kynes who was ably supported by Steve Knight who worked tirelessly all game.
Tredegar look to have a formidable centre partnership with Tom Mcpherson combining well with Craig Lloyd both in attack and defence.
If the first half was about the immacalute boot of Hayman the second half belonged to last weeks heroes with centre Lloyd getting another brace of tries adding to the two he bagged last week.
The ever alert Rhys Hallet nipped over adding another try to his tally and when prop Eddy Grant powered over, scoring his first try in a Tredegar shirt, that man Hayman slotted the conversion to put Tredegar out of sight.
With the second half dominated by the visitors Brynmawr added a penalty and a consolation try which flattered the scoreline.
With new boys Tylorstown up next at the Rec Tredegar are looking to continue their good form and it is understood that the squad will be strengthened shortly with a few key signings.
