Tredegar Rugby Supporters Club held their awards presentation after the final game of the season when they celebrated promotion to Division 1.
Supporters club chairman Allan Medlicott, introduced outstanding Pontypool coach, former Wales & British Lion, Ray Prosser to the packed clubhouse.
In a poignant season to remember when Tredegar said a sad farewell to club stalwarts Trevor Wiltshire, Gareth Bendle and Alan Fox it was fitting that the main awards were dedicated to the memory of those that had deep affection for the club and who loved Tredegar rugby so much.
Ray took great delight in presenting The Trevor Wiltshire cup to his grandson, Tom Brown who was voted the most promising player by the supporters club.
Also chosen by members of the supporters club The Gareth Bendle trophy for Clubman of the Year was presented to club captain Rhys Hallet whilst Ray Prosser finished off the proceedings by presenting the Alan Fox Player of the Year to Tom McPherson.

Following last season's exodus of players, Robert Johnston and his dedicated coaching team assembled a completely new Tredegar team that were just pipped at the post for the league championship yet went on to claim promotion to Division 1 East.
Playing expansive, attractive rugby, Tredegar showed exceptional defensive qualities tempered with outstanding individual flair and with a team spirit second to none had the ability to score tries from anywhere on the field, including from behind their own try-line.
For the record , Tredegar played twenty two games, winning eighteen, with one draw and losing only three times, whilst accumulating 768 points on the way ,which was the second highest in the division. Tredegar only conceded 369 points, again the second best defensive record in the league and remarkably Tredegar amassed an amazing 18 bonus points in total , the highest in all the WRU leagues except for Premiership team Swansea whose twenty two was achieved playing four games more.
Tredegar scored 111 tries in total, their third highest number in a season, averaging five tries every game
Tredegar's super centres lead the try scoring stakes with Ken Pugh's 40 year old record under threat from both Tom McPherson who notched up 27 touchdowns and his partner Craig Lloyd who crossed the whitewash 22 times and with both centres missing a few games they would probably have both overtaken Pugh's 29 tries club record. Club captain Rhys Hallet also played his part and was rewarded with 15 tries.
In the forwards, 10 tries by dynamic flanker Ron Kynes just shaded the 8 tries scored by Alun Jenkins and both Tom Brown & Steve Knight scored three tries apiece.
Dominic Pullin registered 6 tries just shading Dan Haymond's 5 and Aaron Quick on 4. Matt Jolly and Andrew Grant got 2 a piece and Matthew McGovern, Luke Mansfield, Nicky Gould and Neil Young got a try each.
With such a successful season it was inevitable that certain milestones would be achieved and records broken along the way.
Dan Haymond became only the third Tredegar player to score more than 200 League points in a season, setting a new record of 247 (5 tries, 26 penalties, 72 conversions). The other two were Jeremy Lloyd (206) in 2002-03 and Gareth Evans (202) in 2001-02. He also beat the previous best of 55 conversions set by Gregg Jones in 2008-09.
Tom McPherson scored 24 League tries passing the career total of 17 posted by Jeff Daley and Neil Lewis from the centre position. He is now second in the list behind David Davies who totalled 44 in his career. McPherson passed 100 points for the season in all games. 26 of his 27 tries were from the centre position, beating the previous best of 19 set by Derek Tudball in 1969-70. He also passed the season’s record of 18 League tries set by Daniel Morris in 2004-05 and 2006-07.
Alun Jenkins made a record 22 consecutive League appearances at no. 8 passing the previous best of 19 by John Williams in 1992-93.
In their promotion winning season to remember, Tredegar recorded their 250th league win and passed 10,000 league points in total with the score-line of 71-30 at Caerphilly beating the previous League best for an away match which was at Treherbert (13-61) in 2008-09.
Individuals that made thir mark in the season to remember included Steve Knight making his 50th career appearance in all games and Steve Evans making his 50th appearance in the League. Daniel Davies and Brett Mountney became members of the exclusive centurians club with Davies passing 100 career points in all games and Mountney notching up 100 appearances in a Tredegar shirt.
However Tredegar's success stemmed from the exceptional team spirit engineered by the coaches Robert Johnston, Gareth Johnston, David Brown, Jason Williams, Chris Jones and Martin Williams and with phsio Steve Duggan also making his 100th appearance during the season, the remainder of the playing squad included Kristian Smith, Anthony Simmonds, Will Evans, Daffyd Dew, Owain Crowley, Jordan Williams, Will Griffiths, Chris Moseley, Anton Wells, Ricky Alsopp , Julian Willets and Paul Edwards.
Whilst fate has dealt a kind hand to Tredegar who march on into Division 1,the players and coaching staff extend congratulations to neighbours Ebbw Vale RFC who although winning Division 1 will provide a long awaited local derby, curteosy of the WRU , and will be the team to beat next season.
Tredegar's director of coaching, Robert Johnston thanks all players, coaches, backroom staff, supporters committee, sponsors, supporters and the general public for all their hard work and attendances in this season to remember and extends a warm welcome to the Recreation Ground in September when Tredegar will once again face the challenge of the First Division .

It was good news for everyone at Tredegar Rugby to hear that centre Craig Lloyd had recovered from his recent medical problems and was over the surgery he had to correct it. It was also pleasing to see him back on the rugby field as he came on as substitute during the latest game against Merthyr. Since joining the club from Pill Harriers, Craig has proven to be a popular player with all the supporters and a strength in Tredegar’s mid-field having scored thirteen tries this season.
On behalf of himself and his family Craig would like to thank all the players and supporters, together with the backroom staff for their help, kindness and support they received during this time.

Sitting at the top of Division 2 East ,Tredegar RFC can refect on an unbelievable first half of the 2010 / 2011 campaign. Whilst Tredegar are joint leaders they have the best attacking record record in the league amassing an incredible 337 points on the way. Scoring forty five tries and only conceeding thirteen tries in total bears credit to the defensive qualitys of the squad which compliments their attacking prowess in scoring an average of five tries per game playing entertaining rugby.
Top of the try scoring table is centre Craig Lloyd with twelve tries under his belt, closely followed by co-centre Tom Mcpherson whose eleven touchdowns from the centre position, saw him written into the club's record books beating Neil Lewis tally of ten in season 2002./3
Dan Haymond has notched up the quickest century of points ever with three tries, fifteen penalties and thirty one conversions and is the leading points scorer with an impressive 122 so far in only nine league games.
Flanker, Ron Kynes has stepped up to the mark at this level of rugby and is the leading try-scorer amongst the forwards with six touchdowns in his first season in Division 2.
Other individual miletones passed in the first half of the season saw Steve Evans make his 50th league appearance whilst Tredegar's Mr Dependable, Brett Mountney thoroughly deserved becoming one of the few league centurions when he made his 100th appearance as prop.
As a club , the first half of the season saw the men in red pass ten thousand league points in all league games so far and team manager Chris Jones said he was delighted at the players dedication and efforts of the backroom staff and all efforts would now be to push for promotion.
Jones added the enforced layoff due to the Autumn Internationals and the adverse weather has taken the impetus away but hopefully Tredegar's traditional second half of the season performance will see them in the promotion stakes come the end of the season and with a few games to re-arrange Tredegar are fortunate to have state of the art lighting to play midweek games should it become necessary and re-arranged games could be played during the six nations campaign when there will be another enforced period of grass root rugby inactivy due to the policies of the WRU.

Tredegar have been drawn away to Pill Harriers in the second round of the Swalec Plate competition.
Tredegar 21 Tredegar Ironsides 24. Match report added to the site for this friendly match.
A vital losing bonus point sees Tredegar keep the pressure on at the top of Division 2 but with just 4 league games to play between now and the end of the year the WRU should really look at what this enforced period without games is really doing to grass roots rugby, never mind the finances of the clubs who develop and provide the players for regional and international rugby.
Off the field Tredegar supporters announce deatils of their annual Christmas dinner on Friday 10th December and with tickets at £20 per head a great evening is promised with a four course Christmas dinner, a free raffle and two cabaret acts.

Chris Jones, Tredegar's team manager has announced that Tredegar RFC will play Tredegar Ironsides RFC on the Rec on Saturday 30th October.
Jones said that with both teams without a fixture that weekend it is the perfect opportunity to build bridges and establish relations with teams and players from the Tredegar area. Jones added it is vital to have good relations with local teams such as the Ironsides and Trefil and with everyone working for the cause of rugby in Tredegar it can only benefit all the local teams.
Jones was delighted to announce that the Dragons Head Coach Paul Turner will be holding a master class under the auspices of Tredegar RFC at the rec in the near future and has extended a warm welcome to players from the Ironsides and Trefil to join Tredegar and support an initiative that will benefit all the clubs.

Tredegar record an away victory over Penallta by 34-12. We next play Mountain Ash, at home on Saturday 23rd October, 2-30pm kick off.
Tredegar next play Llantrisant away on Saturday October 9th.
Chris Jones said he was delighted at another bonus point win to head the division but was rather bemused at the comment on Penarth's match report stating Tredegar were unimaginative. Jones added if unimaginative rugby is scoring thirty tries in five matches and only conceeding four tries is unimaginative then Tredegar must be doing something wrong.
Jones said that Tredegar's five consecutive wins at the start of the season has not been achieved since 1968 and the team are responding well to the efforts of the coaching team and the players are expressing themselves and playing attractive rugby that really deserves better support from the town and anyone interested in rugby is welcome to attend the matches at the recreation ground where they will be pleasantly surprised.
Jones added that another milestone was passed when Brent Mountney played his 100th league game last week.
Tredegar's next league game is at home against Llantwit Fardre on Saturday October 2nd, kick off 2-30pm.
Tredegar's team manager Chris Jones stated that whilst he was delighted that Tredegar had completed all fixtures in September with winning bonus points, an under par performance by the team against Penarth should have resulted in more tries being scored.
Jones added that Tredegar needs to become ruthless in their game plan and put their opponents to the sword but playing winning rugby is always enjoyable for the players and pleasurable to the coaching staff. The squad has responded well to the coaches requirements and the team can only get better.
Steve Evans played his 50th league match against Caerphilly and against Tylorstown, Tredegar passed 10,000 points scored in all league matches.

Jones said that Tredegar now has good numbers at training and their attitude is second to none. Players are bonding well and developing their skills and team work for the benefit of Tredegar RFC.
The squad is being strengthened and Jones has added Luke Mansfield, a back row forward from Cornwall and a utility back from Preston Grasshoppers, Sean Griffiths who can play at full back, outside half or centre, and will announce further signings later.
Tredegar have certainly embraced the recent law changes and with sixteen tries scored in just three games are setting the standard in attacking rugby.

Ricky or Jim Royle as he is better known has also appeared in a range of well-known TV shows, including the soap opera Brookside, and the crime series Cracker. He was sentenced to six years in prison, of which he served two, after being found guilty of 'conspiracy to intimidate' as one of the so-called Shrewsbury-Two, and in 1975 he disrupted the TUC conference by shouting from the wings after he had been prevented from speaking from the stage. It was revealed in 2002 that MI5 had monitored him during the 1970s.
In December 2006 he presented a programme in Five's Disappearing Britain series entitled When Coal was King, in which he made controversial comments about Maggie Thatcher's potential death.
He has also starred in several films, notably Mike Bassett: England Manager, Raining Stones and Hillsborough, a made-for-TV film about the families' of the victims of the Hillsbrough Stadium disaster.
Joining Ricky, Gary Skyner Liverpool's comedian of the year, was the UK's second thalidomide victim and in addition to being a comedian is an effective and inspirational speaker. Gary's inspiring tale of triumph over tragedy will touch your hearts.
Speaking on the up-and-coming Welsh tour to Tredegar, Ricky added, “I have a huge bond with the South Wales area, and particularly enjoy coming back to famous rugby clubs like Tredegar.”

With David Edwards appointed as the new club chairman the backroom staff has been strengthened with ex Newbridge official Chris Jones replacing Martin Williams as team manager with the experienced Williams taking on the role of assistant secretary.
Fitness guru Dave Brown will bring a wealth of experience that will stretch and get the best out of the playing squad.
