Match Reports 2008/9
Tredegar (29) Treherbert (17)
October 18th 2008
BOTTOM of the league Treherbert were assisted by a below-par performance from referee Gareth Butler, who was taken ill during the match, and were unable to overcome a spirited Tredegar side that saw three of their players sinbinned for technical offences.

Tredegar started with more urgency than in recent games and it looked as if the men in white would overwhelm their visitors, but an exchange of penalties between Greg Jones and Mike Huckeridge saw the stalemate broken when Jamie Henthorne bagged the first of his two tries, receiving the ball in his own half and completely outstripping Treherbert's defence the Tredegar speedster scored Tredegar's first try of the afternoon.

Jones' conversion extended Tredegar's lead by another two points and when Damien Smith set off on a weaving run he beat countless defenders to also get on the scoresheet.
With Tredegar looking to open the floodgates the influence of the referee affected proceedings as Rob Smith, Joe Campbell and Chris Orum were all yellow carded for technical offences and Treherbert were awarded a penalty try for no apparent reason. Huckerbridge converted to bring Treherbert within touching distance, keeping their spirits high and still looking for their first elusive win.

Second row Ryan Thomas put in an all-action performance but it was left to flanker Steve Knight to grab a try, rewarding the forwards for their efforts.
With the Tredegar pack starting to fire on all cylinders Treherbert never threatened even during the disruption to the Tredegar line up.

Jamie Henthorne bagged his second try with Treherbert having no answer to his speed and Tredegar should get the ball to the sprinter as often as possible. Dafydd James made a welcome return in the centre and, given a run in the team, should prove a formidable centre pairing with Ian Marsh who missed this game due to injury.
Greg Jones converted but some sloppy Tredegar defence allowed the opposing scrum half Dan Morris the easiest of scores when he raced over, touching down a loose ball. Mike Huckeridge converted.
