Match Reports 2008/9
Tredegar (8) Rhydyfelyn (6)
October 4th 2008

Tredegar ground out a hard fought win at home against Rhydyfelyn with both full backs having a major influence on the end result.

Scott Perry, captaining Rhydyfelyn from the full back position was responsible
for all the visitors scores slotting 2 penalties whilst his opposite number
Rob Smith pulled off a try saving tackle in the last quarter denying the visitors
victory.

Playing against the elements Tredegar rang the changes giving first time starts
to Daniel Horseman and Ryan Thomas whilst Wayne Simms was given the number
6 shirt following his dynamic showing in the cup.

With neither side dominating, Tredegar enjoyed slight territorial advantage
during the first half but found themselves 6 points down and despite pressurising
could only manage a debut try from Wayne Simms.

Jon Osborne and Lee Pidgeon received yellow cards for technical infringements
and although Tredegar had the elements behind them when prop Paul Douglas
recieved his marching orders passive scrums became the order of the day. To
add further woe to the Tredegar cause Osborne was red carded for a high tackle
and despite their superiority in numbers Rhydyfelyn could not get the score
they so desperately needed.

A Greg Jones penalty saw Tredegar take the lead but Rhydyfelyn could have sewn up the win, only to see their attack snuffed out by Smith whose heroic try saving tackle saw Tredegar escape by a whisker.

A WIN is a WIN, and Tredegar will take great comfort in securing another 3
league points but the team's indiscipline must be a major cause for concern
and needs be addressed to achieve success.
