Match Reports 2008/9
Tredegar (24) v Brynmawr (31)
September 20th 2008
Tredegar put in an abject performance to see newly promoted
Brynmawr take the spoils at the Recreation Ground.

Brynmawr's effort and defence proved to be the deciding factor separating
the two sides and saw them run up a 31 point lead at the interval. With four
first half tries the visitors secured a bonus point and Matthew Bow was sucessful
with 5 kicks at goal, slotting 4 conversions and a penalty. Tredegar' first
half effort produced a try from quick thinking scrum-half Matt Taylor and
Greg Jones' conversion and penalty saw the home team stop them running away
with an unassailable lead.

With disruption in midfield Tredegar could not command any authority behind
the scrum and whilst the forwards held parity in the set piece the visiting
pack dictated matters at the breakdown and open play. Brynmawr had 3 players
yellow carded and Tredegar took advantage scoring a penalty try which Greg
Jones converted.

Jones made amends for a poor performance scoring a try in the dying minutes
and his conversion saw Tredegar salvage a losing bonus point. If Tredegar
are to seriously challange for honours this season a midfield combination
must be found to complement Rob Smith, Daffyd James and Jamie Henthorne and
the win to will needs to be instilled into the team.

Next week sees Tredegar hit the cup trail with a home fixture against Pontllanfraith
and a much bigger effort will be needed to progress in the cup.
