Match Reports 2007/8
Tredegar (38) Rhydyfelin (14)
April 12th, 2008
Scrum half Matthew Taylor was the toast of Tredegar as
his 3 tries gained a valuable bonus point disposing of The village side who
turned up with a bare 15 players, so passive scrums were the order of the
day.
Although Tredegar were unable to exert their forward superiority demonstrated in their last four games due to the passive scrum rule their forwards were led by some surging runs from James Atwell and John Osborne.
Matthew Taylor sniped over after 10 minutes whilst the irrepresible Atwell
followed suit, crossing the line after a catch and drive at the lineout. Taylor
got his second touchdown after taking a penalty following an audacious dummy
that wrongfooted the visitors defense. Two conversions from the sure- footed
Greg Jones against the wind saw Tredegar comfortably ahead 19 points to nil
at the interval.
Rhydefelin's woes continued when they had two players yellow carded and Tredegar
took full advantage when Taylor completed his hat-trick and winger Daffyd
James out paced the cover defence to pile further misery on the visitors.
With an assailable lead of 31 points Tredegar then fell asleep allowing the
visitors territorial advantange claiming two converted tries.
Atwell, Dawson and Knight then took the game by the scruff of the neck and
their foraging runs paid off with Knight barging over and Kearney converting.
Whilst Tredegar used the game as a contested training session subs Ryan Williams,
Jason Ronan, Jamie Henthorne and Richard Jones were given a run out and valuable
match time.
Wednesday night sees Tredegar face Ystrad Rhondda at the Rec and must up the
ante to face the second placed team in the the league who have only lost to
to the league leaders.
Saturday Tredegar are away to Pill Harriers who are not enjoying the best
of seasons this year.
