Pill Harriers (5) Tredegar (54)

April 19th 2007

With the home team staring relegation in the face Tredegar's Eight tries was a bitter pill for the basement team to swallow. A strong Tredegar fifteen overcame the elements and brushed aside Pill's challenge securing another victory and winning a bonus point.

Whilst Tredegar made hard work of things in the opening quarter when Greg Jones opened up Pills defence, Darryl Carter's strong running saw the burly centre touch down but Pill hit back when some sloppy tackling let in the opposing full back for a soft try.

Whilst Pill never threatened the visitors line again Tredegar were guilty of poor handling and wrong options and it was only when Stuart Jarman barged over that the difference between the sides became evident . Just before the interval Tredegar positively oozed class when Jamie Henthorne scored two tries within minutes of each other. Henthorne outpaced the covering defence for his first try and on the restart gathered the ball, slipped the cover defence and his exceptional pace saw him touchdown under the posts recording probably the fastest brace of tries in Tredegar's long and illustrious history.

Greg Jones completed the scoring in the first half with his first try of the day and his 4th conversion saw Tredegar 33 points in front at half time. With the forwards putting in another first class display Joe Campbell stood tall leading his troops with an all action display

When Stuart Jarman was denied his second touchdown due to an illegal use of the boot as he drove the Tredegar scrum over the line the ref had no alternative but to award a penalty try and when Jones sprinted over for his second try after some deft work amonst the Tredegar backline Pill were dead and buried.

Tredegar brought on Ryan Williams, Brett Mountney, Steve Knight and Ian Marsh whose second touch of the ball saw the replacement centre getting on the score sheet.
Greg Jones had a fine day with the boot kicking seven out of eight shots at goal and with his two tries was responsible for 24 points.

Pill brought on some big men who seemed more interested in roughing it instead of playing rugby and the ref called time 5 minutes prematurely saving their blushes even more.

With 3 games left Tredegar are home to Llanishen on Saturday and away to them next Tuesday night Kick off 6.30 pm
