Llanishen (3) v Tredegar (30)

April 19th, 2008

Visiting Llanishen for the first time Tredegar RFC were alarmed that with an early kick off scheduled for 6.30 due to the home side having no lights on arrival found the game switched to a poorly marked out parks pitch with their usual ground no better but under water.

This led to some confusion as the visitors had not arrived together due to work commitments and to get the game underway Tredegar started with 14 players.
Tredegar found it hard to raise their game after soundly thrashing Llanishen at home just a few days earlier and succumbed to an early penalty allowing the visitors to edge ahead. With the late arrival of Jamie Noble Tredegar consolidated their forward effort with Joe Campbell's " Scrum on " call saw the formidable Tredegar pack steamroller their luckless hosts on several occasions.

As is the norm in these games Tredegar struggled with the condition of the pitch and when Matthew Taylor slid over after a thunderous effort by the pack the visitors held a slender lead at half time.

With a player apiece yellow carded after the break 2 Greg Jones penalties gave Tredegar the breathing space they needed and when Richard Powell's searing break left the defence for dead, Jamie Noble finished the movement off scoring with a diving try.

Greg Jones conversion put Tredegar in the driving seat and two well taken tries by wingman Trevor James saw Tredegar heading for another win and a bonus point. Greg Jones final conversion sealed the win for Tredegar, consigning the home side to the third division.

Tredegar's final game of the season is away to Rhydyfelin where the home side will be fighting for their lives as there is a mathematical possibilty that they could also be relegated.

Meanwhile Tredegar march on to complete their league programme and hopefully a top 4 or 5 finishing position.
