Llangefni (5) v Tredegar (33)

Oct 27th 2007 - KM Cup

Match Report by Lyndon Evans

Located in the heart of Anglesey, Llangefni RFC hosted second division Tredegar RFC who made the 300 mile round trip to North Wales, to defeat the Division 4 North outfit by 33 points to 5 in the Ist round of the Konica WRU Cup.

With both sides experiencing a mixed bag of results in their respective leagues it was a superb team performance from the South Walians that saw Tredegar run in 5 tries to carry them through to the next round.

Paul Douglas, Ryan Williams and Jason Ronan provided the platform up front and with the heavier Tredegar pack exerting their authority Rhys Roberts was able to deliver a stream of quality ball from the middle of the line out whilst Owain Tudball policed front line ball. Tredegar’s back row of Steve Knight, Jack Dawson and captain courageous Joe Campbell ensured the home side were deprived of any loose possession allowing the visiting backs the freedom of the park.

Wingman Daniel Davies touched down twice whilst scrum half Ross Turner also scored a brace of tries which is now becoming a regular feature of the Tredegar score- ring pattern. Tredegar’s final try was claimed by Jack Dawson who came up with the ball following a drive over the line by the rampaging visiting forwards. Daryl Carter kicked 4 conversions to see Tredegar lead comfortably by 33 points.

Daniel Morris, Chris Thew, Craig Lewis and Paul Southall had quiet games by their standards but contributed to a marvellous team effort that saw Tredegar march on in the cup.

Llangefni got on the score sheet to score a consolation try but really never threatened or matched the Tredegar effort and with second half substitutes Rodri Jones, Brett Mountney and Martin Padgett adding to the Tredegar cause the visitors never looked likely to lose this first round cup encounter.

Whilst Tredegar await their next opponents in the cup on Saturday they return to league action at home against Newport High-School Old Boys.
