Match Reports 2007/8
Tredegar (23) Abercynon (14)
Wednesday April 9th 2008
Tredegar's recent good form extended to four consecutive wins when third placed Abercynon were given a stern lesson in forward play from a much improved Tredegar side who ran out comfortable winners by three tries to one, winning by 23 points to 14.

Two penalties and a conversion from Greg Jones following Jamie Henthorn's pacy try saw Tredegar break an eight all deadlock at the break.
Although Abercynon's Matthew Turner scored all their points with one try and three penalties their indiscipline cost them dear by having two players yellow carded. Tredegar took advantage of this and turned the screw in the second half to dominate all phases of play with the whole pack putting in a heroic performance.

Brett Mountney played out of his skin and Jack Dawson ruled the lineout. Joe Campbell was immense in attack and defence and led his troops from the front with the Tredegar forwards dominating proceedings for long spells in the second half. Daniel Davies always threatened having the better of his opposite number whilst the Tredegar pairing of the Jones boys at half back were solid and always dangerous.

Rob Smith showed exceptional pace to cut through the defence to touch down and with the effervescent pack storming the visitors line the ref had no alternative but to award a penalty try. Abercynon battled hard but could not break the Tredegar stranglehold allowing the home side to avenge the defeat suffered away earlier in the season.

With probably the best pack in the division, pacy wings and solid half backs Tredegar deserve to finish higher up the table and the final run in of games should make up for the dissapointmenting performances mid season.
