Match Report by Lyndon Evans

Tredegar RFC kicked off this season's campaign away to the former Division 1 team that are going to find life in Division 2 just as hard as their fight for survival last term.

With the Bulls programme notes confidently stating their immediate aim is
to win the league they will have to produce a more disciplined approach to
achieve this and if Tredegar had had more game time under their belt would
have surprised the former Division 1 side as they were just edged out of the
spoils , the difference between the two sides being the boot of Rob Lloyd.

Tredegar's Steve Evans and Joe Campbell stood their ground with the heavier
home pack only able to offer a catch and drive ploy . Tredegar's Jamie Parry
try was disallowed by the ref whilst Dan Morris on permit was unlucky not
to score being hauled down short a metre short after one of his storming runs.
Gareth Kearney became Tredegar's first try scorer of the season and his conversion
saw the visitors hold a slim 1 point lead at the interval despite flanker
Steve Evans spending 10 minutes in the bin.

Tredegar have found a gem in former Wales Youth scrum half Jamie Parry who's
silky skills, speed off the mark and all round general reading of the game
showed what an asset he will be to the Tredegar cause this season, more than
ably filling the boots of Simon King who is now trying his luck in Division
1.

With tempers fraying in the second half 3 Builth players were yellow carded
on separate incidents but Tredegar could not put their superiority to good
use and when they returned to full complement the Bulls pack crashed over
and Lloyds conversion saw them edge out Tredegar to win an entertaining but
niggly game.

Coach Tony Edwards has certainly instilled the right attitude in his charges and when the full squad is available Tredegar look set for another sucessful campaign.
