Tredegar's fate in Division 1 is in the balance following an unexpected defeat away at the hands of Ystrad Rhondda.
With Tredegar just needing to get a losing bonus point from their last fixture of the season, the Rhondda outfit, out muscled and bullied the visitors to cling onto their hope of survival in the division.
Tredegar struck first with two well taken tries by prop Dan Evans & winger Dan Davies whilst Pierce's conversions saw the visitors ahead by fourteen points. Pierce increased Tredegars lead by three points with a well struck penalty but when influential scrum half Matt Taylor was injured and left the field Tredegar lacked direction.
Just before the interval the ref handed out a yellow card apiece to each side and following a mass brawl he had no alternative but to red card Ystrad's prop for blatant punching.
In an ill tempered second half, Tredegar lead by 17 points and facing 14 players an away win should have been on the cards. However Ystrad started the second half with more purpose and when Tredegar's Dan Evans was consigned to the bin they took advantage of passive scrums and played aggresively with more purpose.
Tredegar capitulated in the second half conceeding four tries and with another two players from each side yellow carded Tredegar completed their first season back in Division 1 with a loss instead of the win that would have ensured their place in next years division.
Tredegar now have to wait to see what happens in the remaining fixtures in Division 1 and just hope that results favour them.
Both teams in the relegation zone, Beddau and Ystrad need to pick up maximum points in their remaining games to consign Tredegar to the drop.
