Match Reports 2009/10

Beddau (23) Tredegar (22)

Oct 3rd 2009

Tredegar lost this basement battle at Beddau  but the home side still prop up Division 1, whilst Tredegar's losing bonus point was good enough to get them out of the danger zone.
Following last weeks win at home, Tredegar were hoping to claim their first away win at  Beddau but Luke James turned from hero to villain when he missed a last minute conversion that would have seen the visitors snatch the victory that they probably  just deserved.

James was responsible for Tredegar's first 10 points when he kicked a penalty, scored a try and converted his own touchdown and looked likely to steer Tredegar to another win.
However the centre could have felt hard done by when he received a yellow card when his opposite number stumbled into him  as he lost his footing on another questionable playing service.

Beddau used the elements and the slope of the pitch better in the first half and lead by eight points  at the interval. Despite James  spell in the bin Tredegar, sparked into life and when Luke John crossed under the posts Darren Pierce had the easiest of conversions.

Tredegar scented victory but luck deserted them when David Ford's reverse pass was intercepted with the opposition centre having an easy ride to the tryline. Wayne Sims was dispatched to the sin bin and a clever kick from Pierce saw a quick line out in Beddau's 22 result in  the quick thinking Joe Campbell crossing. With the men in green leading 23 points to 22 all James had to do was slot the conversion and Tredegar would have been home and dry.  When the ball just shaved the posts Tredegar were denied the morale boosting away win on the road.

With a backline full of talent but the pack stuttering and starting Tredegar can only improve and look forward to hosting promoted Bedlinog  who gave Newbridge a fright last Saturday to the Recreation Ground next Saturday.
