Tredegar (5) Bargoed (36)

Oct 17th 2009

Tredegar can only blame themselves and their indiscipline, going down to high flying Bargoed at home.

Although experiencing selection problems due to injuries and work comittments Tredegar were without first choice scrum half Jamie Parry, prop Brendan Sullivan, flanker Chris James and star winger Jamie Henthorne.

Nevertheless the writing was on the wall when Rob Smith fumbled the ball allowing Stefan Jones to steal the ball and touch down and his conversion saw the visitors lead by seven points. For the visitors Mike Roberts and Lewis Prothero crossed  immediately and another Jones conversion saw them run up an assailable lead.  On the rare occasions Tredegar ventured into the visitors half, Luke James was unlucky when he broke away but could not get the scoring pass away and when  Tredegar's scrum half Richard Jones was forced to leave the leave the field after a late tackle that went unpunished, Tredegar were really up against it with fly half,  Darren Pearce moving to scrum half .

In a scrappy encounter Luke James gathered the ball from a ruck and with the covering defence floundering got Tredegar's only score of the afternoon when he touchedown unopposed.  At half time Tredegar were trailing twenty nine  points to five but to their credit they stuck at their guns and restricted Bargoed to a solitary second half penalty through the boot of Stefan Jones. Tredegar competed at all phases but eventually succumbed and Bargoed finished the game off with another converted try.

At this level no team can afford to allow the opposition any indulgence and Tredegar must now look to improve their discipline and can look forward to consolidating their position in the league after facing the top four clubs in Division one. Saturday sees a local derby with  Tredegar away to Merthyr at the Wern
